NEWS: DMITRY BIVOL UNFAZED BY CANELO ALVAREZ SITUATION, JUST WANTS BELTS

‍‍Recently, Light-Heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol was interviewed by iFL TV, where the Russian discussed his plans for 2023.

Since his massive upset over Canelo Alvarez in May of this year, the expected route for Bivol has ultimately been a return bout with the talented Mexican. However, that fight has yet to be cemented, and Bivol doesn't seem all that bothered.

While most fighters would be dying for another chance to make the biggest purse of their career, Bivol wants one thing in this sport: belts. And while he'd be more than happy to move down and take Alvarez' Super Middleweight titles, he isn't in any rush to make a decision just yet.

"I don't care (if I face Canelo again), to be honest. I don't want to depend on his decisions (in terms of) who he wants to fight. I just want to fight, I want to fight for belts. If I don't get this fight for (Canelo's 168 pound) belts, give me another fight. I will be patient. And one day I will get the fights for the belts," Bivol flatly stated.

Another route the unbeaten Bivol may elect to pursue would be a unification showdown with the winner of titlist Artur Beterbiev vs. Anthony Yarde, scheduled for January 28. It's an intriguing possibility for Bivol, who, like most fight fans, expects Beterbiev to come out on top.

"It's a good fight," said Bivol. "Yarde looks strong, but Beterbiev has much more amateur experience. He's a good pro. He's strong, too. it's an interesting fight but Beterbiev is more experienced, more skilled."

Hilariously, as Bivol simply can't be bothered, Dmitry stated he wouldn't be in town for Beterbiev-Yarde when they meet in London, as he will be "busy", possibly training for another fight. While many fighters would use that event to show up and create excitement for a potential showdown, that simply isn't how Bivol intends to realize his goals.

While it might not be the best strategy for selling yourself, it damn sure beats all the phony trash talk all these fighters practice, only to butcher the execution in the actual moment.

Regardless, either the Alvarez rematch or the Beterbiev unification bout would be great additions to the 2023 calendar.
