NEWS: BOB ARUM EXPECTS A 'BIG' 2023 FOR HEAVYWEIGHT HOPEFUL JARED ANDERSON
By: Jay Calderon
Recently, when speaking to Sky Sports, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum discussed exciting American prospect-turned-contender Jared Anderson, and their hopes for 2023.
The Heavyweight hopeful had a productive 2022, picking up another two knockout wins, improving to 13-0 with 13 KOs, stopping Miljan Rovcanin in August and Jerry Forrest earlier this month. Off the back of those successes, Arum envisions a "big year" for the Toledo, Ohio native.
"This is going to be a big year for Jared. He's come along. He's gone from a prospect to a contender, or the fringe of being a contender. I look at '23 as the year Jared Anderson will become a real top contender for the heavyweight title," Arum expressed.
The 23-year-old Anderson is coming of age in the division and what could be considered just the right time. There are still plenty of big names available for Anderson to fight, but many are on the wrong side of their peak. These could be perfect building fights for a talent on his rise in the weight class.
Still, due to his combination of speed and power, Arum admits he has had trouble finding willing opponents for Anderson. However, the Top Rank head honcho believes the right paycheck can move fights over the line.
"Money always solves the problem (of finding opponents)," Arum said. "I think a lot of guys are going to test Jared and let's see. So far I've been so pleased with his development and his career that I think he's done extraordinarily well."
While there is no set date for Anderson's next outing, it's likely to take place in the first quarter of the coming year.
