NEWS: CARL FROCH WARNS ANTHONY JOSHUA ABOUT FIGHTING 'LOWER LEVEL' FIGHTERS FOR TOO LONG
By: Jay Calderon
Recently, former world champion Carl Froch spoke with iD Boxing and discussed former world Heavyweight titlist Anthony Joshua's upcoming comeback fight against Jermaine Franklin, set for April 1 in London.
Many fans have been rather critical of the quality of opposition for a former titlist, with Franklin's biggest claim to fame being losing a close decision to Dillian Whyte back in November. Still, Froch believes the tune-up is fair after Joshua dropped to decision losses to current world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
However, Froch warns, Joshua shouldn't linger at the lower levels for too long.
"I think jumping in with Franklin, taking him time and not jumping in there with too much of a stiff test, I think that won't do him any harm. I think that's a good match for him," Froch suggested. "Then, I wanna see him in with a proper fighter.
"He can't spend his time too long fighting nobodies," Froch continued." Not saying Franklin is a nobody, but AJ's at the level where you wanna see him in world title fights. You don't wanna see him messing around at low level for too long."
If successful, there have been rumors of a rematch with the previously-mentioned Whyte. The pair of rivals first met as pros way back in late 2015. The fighters were amateur rivals, with Whyte having a victory of Joshua in the unpaid ranks. That loss was avenged during their professional contest, when Joshua stopped Whyte in the seventh round of action.
The other route that has been floated around is a megabit with MMA star Francis Ngannou, though nothing of note in that respect has materialized.
