NEWS: CHRIS EUBANK TAKING 'NO DAYS OFF' AHEAD OF LIAM SMITH CLASH
By: Jay Calderon
Middleweight contender Chris Eubank isn't looking to take a Christmas break.
While most are busy opening presents or sitting down with the family for a giant feast, Eubank, donning a festive hat, was interviewed by Sky Sports at his gym, getting in some body rounds.
"Next Gen" is currently preparing for his January 21 encounter with former world titlist Liam Smith, but it wouldn't have made a difference to the son of legendary Chris Eubank, Sr. He would be training, regardless of any upcoming fights.
"Even when I'm not training for a fight, I don't really take days off," Eubank explained. "I'm still doing something, I'm still on the road or doing cardio. I don't really take breaks. It just happens that I've got a big fight coming up, so absolutely, I've got to be in the gym. I've got to be responsible."
In regards to Smith, Eubank expects an action-packed contest. And while Liam claims he will retire the brash Eubank, Chris feels he has plenty left to offer the sport.
"I can't wait, it's going to be so fun. The styles match up so well. Liam says he's going to be the guy to end my career, which is a bit harsh. I'm 33-years-old, I feel like I've still got a lot left in the tank. He doesn't seem to think that's true, so it's going to be a helluva fight," said Eubank.
Eubank also explained he hopes to fight three times in 2023, with the Smith encounter being fight number one, followed by outings in the summer and winter.
2023 could shape up for a busy year, with many fighters featuring early in the calendar. Provided fights don't fall through, it would be nice to see some of these bigger names find their way to the ring more than once in the new year.
