On Saturday, former Middleweight titlist Demetrius Andrade will be returning to action on the Gervonta Davis vs. Hector Garcia under card, taking on Demond Nicholson in Super Middleweight action.

It will be the first fight for the American since a destruction of Jason Quigley back in November 2021. Throughout much of his career, Andrade has struggled to remain active or face the sort of opposition his talent would suggest he should face.

However, having aligned himself with Premier Boxing Champions, that could be on the verge of changing.

At least in theory, there are a wide variety of options from 160 pounds to 168 pounds. Within th elast few years, the most obvious opponent would have been Middleweight titlist Jermall Charlo. Up until August when Andrade vacated his portion of the gold at Middleweight, Demetrius taking on fellow unbeaten Charlo seemed a big fight for division.

While the contest wouldn't be a unification bout at this point, it would still represent a chance for either man to pick up the most impressive win of their respective careers.

However, Andrade (31-0, with 19 KOs) also has his sights set on the winner of the presumably soon-to-be announced showdown between former 168 pound titlists David Benavidez and Caleb Plant. While no date has been announced, the fight is expected to happen in the first third of the the year.

While for many, Benavidez seems a lock to win the proposed encounter, Andrade believes Plant has a really good shot of having success in the fight.

"I think Caleb Plant has a very good chance of winning that fight," Andrade told BoxingScene.com. "I don't see this being a one-sided fight. I don't know why people think this is what it's gonna be. Yes, David Benavidez can fight. But is he the best? Is he the most skillful fighter? No."

Ultimately, Andrade sees a great clash of styles that could go either way on the night.

"So, you have a skillful guy who knows how to fight, who maybe don't have the most power. But we're gonna get a good clash. This is gonna be an entertaining fight, I believe. I believe Caleb Plant definitely has the ring generalship to kinda pull rounds off and be safe if he needs to, because David is more of an inside fighter," said Andrade.

While the Andrade-Charlo fight would be interesting, Demetrius taking on the Plant-Benavidez winner seems the more interesting option at this point. Andrade wants the bigger fights, a possible showdown with superstar Canelo Alvarez, and that means he needs a big win against a Super Middleweight. Beating the Plant-Benavidez winner gives him a big boost towards those goals.
