According to ESPN's Mike Coppinger, the Welterweight clash between fringe titlist Eimantas Stanionis and unbeaten contender Vergil Ortiz is being targeted for March in Texas, the home state of the challenger.

In December, Ortiz' promoters at Golden Boy won the purse bid to stage the contest with a $2.3M bid, resulting in a 75/25 split in the titlist's favor. However, according to Coppinger, Golden Boy will allocate additional money to Ortiz as part of the agreement.

The winner of Stanionis-Ortiz will theoretically be in line to face full WBA titlist Errol Spence, though, the time line for when that bout would take place is up in the air.

Spence is a unified champion at 147 pounds, so he may have other plans in the division, primarily showdowns with either fellow titlist Terence Crawford or former titlist Keith Thurman. Errol may also choose to move up in weight and face the winner of Jermell Charlo-Tim Tszyu for the unified title at 154 pounds.

It should also be noted the unbeaten Spence is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a auto accident.

While an exact location has yet to be announced, the bout will be aired on subscription service DAZN.
