NEWS: GERVONTA DAVIS ARRESTED FOR BATTERY/DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
By: Jay Calderon
While details remain mostly vague, inmate records for Broward County, a county in Miami, Florida, undefeated Lightweight Gervonta Davis has been arrested for one count of Battery Causing Bodily Harm/Domestic Violence. The arrest took place on December 27 (Tuesday).
As mentioned, details remain incomplete, but BoxingScene reports Davis is scheduled to appear before a judge on Wednesday, where charges along with bond recommendations will be introduced. It should also be noted that an arrest/charge is not a conviction.
This isn't the first arrest for the talented American, as Davis has seen his fair share of legal troubles. In February of 2020, Gervonta was charged with two misdemeanor counts of Simple Battery Domestic Violence. After three years, the charges were dropped earlier this month.
The Baltimore native is still set to stand trial for a November 2020 hit-and-run incident on February 16 in his hometown. Adding this his current stress, the pay-per-view attraction is/was scheduled to take on Hector Garcia on January 7 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. There is no word as to whether these current legal entanglements will cause a postponement for the contest.
Interestingly enough, if Davis is allowed to post bond, he could feasible go through with the Showtime pay-per-view main event against the aforementioned Garcia. However, it should be noted, Showtime canceled a bout between Davis and Rolly Romero in December of 2021 after the latter was accused of sexual assault. Romero was eventually cleared of the accusations, and the bout was eventually staged in May of this year.
