NEWS: HECTOR GARCIA READY TO SHOW HE'S ONE OF THE BEST AGAINST GERVONTA DAVIS

2021 was a breakout year for Hector Garcia.

Out of relative obscurity, Garcia emerged onto the world scene with an upset win over the previously-unbeaten and heavily-favored Chris Colbert back in February of last year. Garcia, a natural Jr. Lightweight, then went on to defeat Roger Gutierrez, earning a portion of the gold at 130 pounds in August.

Now, in his biggest fight to date, Garcia faces the highly-talented Gervonta Davis, this Saturday in the nation's capital, and live on Showtime pay-per-view, in Lightweight action.

While the rise of Garcia has come to the surprise of many, Hector recently explained that he's believed in himself all along. And with a fight against a big name like Davis just days away, Garcia feels he finally gets a chance to show the world what he's believed this whole time.

"A victory against 'Tank' will solidify me as one of the best fighters in the world," Garcia said. "I already believe that in my own mind, but the world will realize how good I am after this fight. ... Getting this fight has changed my life forever, but winning it will do wonders for everyone on my team."

While not impossible, a win for Garcia would certainly upset the odds. Currently, Garcia is a massive underdog, sitting at a +770. For what it's worth, Garcia faced and overcame even bigger odds against the aforementioned Colbert, where he was a +1100. So, weirder things have happened.
