NEWS: JACK CATTERALL BLASTS JOSH TAYLOR-TEOFIMO LOPEZ, EYES REGIS PROGRAIS

‍Back in February of last year, lightly-heralded Jack Catterall faced world Jr. Welterweight champion Josh Taylor in what was expected to be a stay-busy fight for the latter. However, things didn't work out quite as planned.

On the night, the skilled Catterall boxed beautifully, frustrating Taylor, and even dropping the champion. However, as is far too often the case in boxing, the decision ultimately went to the known commodity, leaving Jack with a desire to set the record straight.

Late last year, it looked as though Taylor and his team were also interested in such ab opportunity. Eventually, both sides agreed and set the return for early 2023. That failed to materialize, and the fight was rescheduled for early March. When Taylor suffered a torn plantar fascia, the fight was again shelved.

However, with news suggesting Taylor may instead face long-time rival Teofimo Lopez, Catterall is left looking for another viable option.

While he has a date set for a stay-busy encounter on March 25, he hopeful for a showdown with current titlist Regis Prograis, another man in search of an attractive opponent.

Since winning his portion of the gold, Prograis, for one reason or another has been mostly avoided by the likes of Jose Ramirez as well as the aforementioned Lopez. Prograis, who lost a close decision to Taylor back in October of 2019, could benefit from a Catterall clash if nothing else is lined up.

"Now that [the Taylor fight is] out the question, I want the biggest fights possible. I've talked about it the last couple of weeks, I'd love the Regis Prograis fight. In my opinion, we both beat Josh. So, we have that in common, and it's an easy fight to be made," Catterall told iD Boxing.

"I know (my stay-busy fight has) been announced for March 25, but [Regis is] the fight that I want now," Catterall continued. "I believe Regis is up for the fight, and it's a great fight. So, well see how it unfolds these next couple of weeks."

Catterall also smirked while taking a dig at both Taylor and Lopez.

"...I just find it quite funny, that I've woke up to the news of Taylor-Lopez. You've got Lopez who is ducking Prograis, and Taylor who is ducking me. A battle of the ducks. So, well see how that unfolds," a grinning Catterall stated.
