NEWS: OSCAR DE LA HOYA PREDICTS GERVONTA DAVIS VS. RYAN GARCIA 'BREAKS SOME RECORDS'

On Saturday, January 28, live at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, and live on ESPN, According to famous boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, we are only three months away from one of the biggest fights in recent history.

Late last year, word broke that a tentative deal had been reached to match former titlist Gervonta Davis will fellow unbeaten Lightweight Ryan Garcia for April of this year. It finally seemed likely that the talented pool of fighters at 135 pounds would begin fighting one another.

At the time, it was presumed both would have a fight in the interim, but only Davis opted for the stay busy battle. Earlier this month, Davis stopped previously-undefeated Hector Garcia in Washington, D.C. Garcia was initially set to face Mercito Gesta, but ultimately decided to forego the tune-up, and head straight into the Davis clash.

Now, after De La Hoya threatened to move on from the contest when he claimed he hadn't received a contract in due time, all appears just a few details away from being finalized.

"I think this is going to be one of the most anticipated fights in recent years. Both guys are young, both guys are undefeated. Both guys have a huge following. So, I think this is going to be a fight that can break some records," De La Hoya, who has since claimed to have received the contract, told Fight Hub TV.

When asked what the lingering details were that needed sorting out, De La Hoya chose to not disclose said information. However, the major roadblocks seem agreed upon by both teams.

"I don't want to get into it, there's a lot of little details, but they're minor. Everything (major) has gotten worked out. From the weight, from who comes out first, who is the champion, the gloves, the purses -- everything all got sorted out. So, I'm very confident this fight is going to take place April 15."

Of course, this is boxing, so fights are guaranteed until the fighters are in the ring. That said, this seems to be positive news about one of the biggest fights of 2023.
