NEWS: ROLLY ROMERO TO CHALLENGE ALBERTO PUELLO FOR 140 POUND TITLE
By: Jay Calderon
As was first reported by BoxingScene.com, it appears as though brash contender Rolly Romero will move up to 140 pounds in April, challenging Alberto Puello for a portion of the Jr. Welterweight gold.
Romero, who has most recently campaigned as a Lightweight, is coming off the first loss of his professional career. Back in May of last year, undefeated Gervonta Davis stopped Romero with a single shot in the sixth round of their 135 pound encounter. As a professional, Romero currently sits at 14-1 with 12KOs.
Puello, 21-0 with 10KOs, last fought in August, when he warned a close decision over Botirzhon Akhmedov to capture the vacant portion of the gold he currently holds. The Romero encounter will be the first defense of his title.
While Showtime will likely broadcast the contest, a venue and exact date have yet to be decided.
