NEWS: RYAN GARCIA NOT CONCERNED WITH WORLD TITLES, WANTS ONLY THE BEST FIGHTS
By: Jay Calderon
For Ryan Garcia, world titles aren't quite as alluring as they might have been earlier in his career.
With so many belts being handed out within boxing, the unbeaten speedster feels as though he will have to travel another path in route to professional fulfillment. While previous fighters won world championships, many doing so in multiple divisions, Garcia feels his resume itself will be his crowning achievement.
Currently scheduled to face his biggest test to date in fellow undefeated fighter Gervonta Davis on April 15, Garcia suggests taking on the best when they are at their best will be his legacy.
Aiming for fights with the likes of the aforementioned Davis, as well as undefeated Lightweight champion Devin Haney and the highly-skilled Vasyl Lomachenko, Garcia wants to carve out the sort of run "not even Floyd Mayweather" has strung together.
"Can you name one guy that fought everyone in their prime and beat them? You can't name one. But there is going to be one -- or, at least I will be trying for greatness," Garcia told FightHype.com. "Those are the fights I'm aiming for, the top guys. The top guys that everyone's afraid of and don't want to fight. That's what I'm chasing now."
While many of those potential contests may ultimately have a piece of hardware on the line, it's refreshing to at least hear a fighter claim they are more concerned with making the fights happen than worrying about the trophy on the line. Now, it's up to Garcia to continue to walk the walk.
