NEWS: SAVANNAH MARSHALL LOOKING FOR CLARESSA SHIELDS REMATCH IN 2023

Ben Shalom, the promoter of former Middleweight titlist Savannah Marshall, recently spoke with Sky Sports about a possible rematch between his charge and the woman that handed her the only defeat of her career, American Claressa Shields.

Back in October, Shields outworked long-time rival Marshall, unifying the 160 pound division in the process. The fight did record numbers for women's boxing on Sky Sports and sold out the famous 02 Arena in London.

Still, while the event was a huge success, Shalom admits it hardly comforted a dejected Marshall.

"...After that fight she was distraught," Shalom expressed. "Despite everything she achieved and record viewing figures and becoming a superstar in the UK, she was still devastated because all she wanted to do was win that fight."

Now, with a new year on the horizon, Team Marshall is looking to exercise the rematch clause in the contrat. However, Shalom feels it might not be an immediate return bout.

"We know she wants [the rematch]. We respect that but we'll take the rematch at the right time for her. She'll fight in March or April and we'll look at it (afterwards). It's the biggest fight in women's boxing, it still is," Shalom stated.

And while Marshall fell short in the initial contest, Shalom believes she will have grown from the experience and come in with a brand new mentality.

"Savannah's grown a lot from that event. She'll now get confidence from that, be frustrated from that and that makes a dangerous fighter," said Shalom.

To be fair, a rematch does make sense. However, it would only help sell the fight if Marshall looks absolutely devastating or shows new wrinkles to her game in the tune-up encounters. Otherwise, one could argue, it will be hard to convince many that Marshall has the ability to upset Shields.

For what it's worth, Shields and her team have stated that any rematch will take place in the United States, as they feel the victor should have the right to pick the new location.
