NEWS: TIM TSZYU TO FACE FORMER TITLIST TONY HARRISON IN MARCH
By: Jay Calderon
According to BoxingScene.com's Jake Donovan, it has been confirmed that unbeaten Jr. Middleweight contender Tim Tszyu will face former champion Tony Harrison on March 11 in Australia (March 12 locally). While the venue is to be determined, it will air live on Showtime here in the States.
Originally, Tszyu, 21-0 with 15KOs, was to challenge world champion Jermell Charlo on January 28, with all the gold at 154 pounds on the line. However, a bicep injury forced the champion to withdraw from the meeting. Soon thereafter, Harrison expressed via social media that he would be willing to step in and keep Tszyu busy, so to speak.
Apparently, Tszyu and his team took him up on the offer, and have finalized a deal for March.
With the bout in March, it would likely mean that Tszyu, provided he takes care of the tough Harrison and avoids injury, would be facing Charlo in late spring/early summer.
In his last outing, Tszyu made his American debut, rising from off the deck in the opening round to mostly dominant former US Olympian Terrell Guasha in March of last year. Harrison, 29-3-1, with 21KOs, last competed in April, earning a decision over Sergio Garcia.
