NEWS: TOMMY FURY PREDICTS AN EARLY NIGHT AGAINST 'USELESS' JAKE PAUL IN FEBRUARY
By: Jay Calderon
On February 25, if all goes according to plan, unbeaten professionals Tommy Fury and Jake Paul will finally step into the ring and srtle their differences.
Again, if all goes according to plan.
Back in December of 2021, the pair were set to meet before a rib injury to Fury postponed the contest, with Paul eventually facing Tyron Woodley for a second time.
Then, the two reset their encounter for August of last year, but were again denied when Fury wasn't allowed entry into the United States. Again, Paul was forced to install a replacement foe, this time taking on Anderson Silva in October.
Now, finally, with a date set for Saudi Arabia, it appears as though the fighters will finally get to settle their differences, once and for all.
Perhaps, the fight will be even bigger with both having unintentionally teased for over a year. Coupling that with the promotional machine behind Paul and his own viral savvy, and you could have a massive event taking place in February.
However, while many give Paul credit for his smart business moves in and out of the sport, Fury isn't buying into the hype. According to the Brit, Paul showed his lack of intelligence by agreeing to the fight Fury in the first place.
"...He couldn't be that clever, to get in the ring with me," Fury told BT Sport. "Because I'll tell you now: You couldn't pay me a trillion pounds to take a dive. You couldn't pay me a trillion pounds to take it easy. And I will tell you now (that) this fight isn't going the distance."
The taking a dive dig comes from unproved claims that Paul and his team have paid previous opponents to either lose or hold back during their encounters. However, it should be noted, no legitimate evidence has been provided to warrant such claims.
Regardless, Paul has been mostly perfect as a professional, racking up a 6-0 with 4KOs record since January of 2020. Still, while his improved skills might have impressed some, Fury remains unmoved by any potential developments. Tommy even went so far as to compare Jake's skill level to that of a white collar boxer.
"[Jake's] useless (in the ring)," Fury stated. "He's big, he's even stiffer than me -- and I've got a load of muscles on me. He can't move out the way of a shot. His boxing fundamentals are awful because all his fights are the same. Genuinely, when you're messing with proper people who can fight in the gym, and then you go and watch tape on him, the man is a pure white collar fighter. He does not know how to fight.
With both fighters eager to let their feelings about the other be known, and both seemingly vulnerable as fighters, the February encounter could become rather interesting as the fight nears.
If it actually happens.
