NEWS: WBA ORDERS OLEKSANDR USYK VS. DANIEL DUBOIS

According to their official Twitter account, the World Boxing Association championship committee "has ordered the (WBA) Heavyweight world title fight between Super Champion Oleksandr Usyk and Champion Daniel Dubois".

While not the worst fight possible in the sport's biggest division, it does complicate what could otherwise be considered and fun and exciting weight class.

Immediately after defending his WBC Heavyweight crown against veteran Derek Chisora earlier this month, Tyson Fury called out the WBA's "Super" champion in Usyk, whom was ringside for the performance. Soon thereafter, the pair were joined by unbeaten Joe Joyce, who quickly lobbied for his own shot at the "Gypsy King".

While most boxing fans would prefer Fury-Usyk, the Fury-Joyce encounter -- or even the Usyk-Joyce encounter -- would be a reasonably decent consolation prize if the initial fight fails to come about. The fight almost no one has called for is Usyk vs. Dubois.

Making matters even more silly, is that Dubois has already been beaten as a professional, coincidentally having been stopped in dominant fashion by the aforementioned Joyce back in November of 2020.

While there are (absurdly enough) sanctioning body apologists that will argue for the importance of their existence, this is yet another baffling call from one of these alphabet boys that really helps almost no one involved. Even Dubois, who jumps Joyce in line due to having defeated Trevor Bryan in June for his fringe title.

Sure, he'll get a legitimate title shot, but that will mean a one-sided schooling at the hands of Usyk, all for only 25% of the small purse that this buzz-less encounter will generate.

Hopefully, this fight can be avoided -- at the very least, for the time being -- and we can see a couple of the other names I've mentioned step into the ring with one another. Or even have a Royal Rumble-style encounter, like Fury suggested during the three-way stare down.
