PICK: JAIME MUNGUIA VS. JOHN RYDER
By: Jay Calderon
On Saturday, January 27, at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, and live on DAZN, former Jr. Middleweight titlist Jaime Munguia will battle former title challenger John Ryder in Super Middleweight action.
Munguia (42-0, 33KOs) fought only once in 2023, making his official debut at 168 pounds in a close encounter with Sergiy
Derevyanchenko. After mostly back and forth action, Munguia seemed to fade before a late rally in the final round, which included dropping his foe, rescued a decision for the Mexican.
Ryder (32-6, 18KOs), like Munguia, fought only once all of last year. In May, Ryder lost a wide decision to Canelo Alvarez in the latter's native Mexico. Prior to the loss, Ryder had won four straight, including a pair of upsets over Danny Jacobs and Zach Parker in February and November of 2022, respectively.
Check out my pick for Munguia-Ryder in the video above.
