PICK: TYSON FURY VS. OLEKSANDR USYK
By: Jay Calderon
On Saturday, May 18, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and live on pay-per-view, Heavyweight titlist Tyson Fury and world champion Oleksandr Usyk will battle it out to become undisputed champion.
Fury (34-0-1 24KOs) fought only once all of last year, earning a questionable decision over former MMA Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in a cross-sports encounter. Prior to the close call, Fury was riding a four fight knockout streak that included victims such as Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte.
Usyk (21-0-0, 14KOs) also fought only once in 2023, stopping the hard-hitting Daniel Dubois in nine frames. Prior to the Dubois win, Usyk had picked up much of the gold at Heavyweight and defended it once with a pair of wins over former titlist Anthony Joshua in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Check out my pick for Fury-Usyk in the video above.
