PREVIEW: BRANDON FIGUEROA VS. MARK MAGSAYO
By: Jay Calderon
On Saturday at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, and live on Showtime, former Jr. Featherweight titlist Brandon Fugieroa will battle former Featherweight titlist in a 126 pound crossroads encounter.
Figueroa, who lost his 122 pound to Stephen Fulton back in November of 2021, most recently competed in July, stopping Carlos Castro in the sixth after multiple back and forth frames. With two questionable performances in his two most recent outings, Figueroa will certainly be looking to stamp his name at Featherweight.
Magsayo also last competed in July, losing a decision to Rey Vargas and dropping his gold in the process. Magsayo's most recent win came in January of last year, when he upset the talented Gary Russell, Jr. over the distance. Though, it should be noted, Russell suffered a shoulder injury in the encounter.
Both men are looking to bounce back and use the other as a stepping stone to the bigger and better fights at 126. What all is at stake? What happens for the winner? The loser?
