PREVIEW: CANELO ALVAREZ VS. JOHN RYDER
By: Jay Calderon
On Saturday, May 6, at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and live on DAZN pay-per-view, world Super Middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez will battle mandatory challenger John Ryder.
Alvarez, 58-2-2 with 39KOs, last competed back in September of last year, earning a decision over bitter rival Gennadiy Golovkin. Canelo has gone 9-1 in his last 10 outings, stopping five in that line up.
Ryder is 32-5 with 18KOs, having last competed back in November, earning an injury stoppage over Zach Parker to earn the Alvarez shot. Ryder has gone 8-2 with 6 stoppages in his ten most recent encounters.
So, what are my initial thoughts? What's at stake for the winner? The loser? Is this outcome obvious (probably)? Check out my Fight Preview in the video above.
