RESULTS: ALEXIS ROCHA STOPS A VERY GAME GEORGE ASHIE IN SEVEN
By: Jay Calderon
On Saturday at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, and live on DAZN, the once-beaten Alexis Rocha stopped George Ashie in the seventh round of a fun encounter.
Ashie, replacing an injured Anthony Young, put forth a good effort on short notice, attempting to answer any of the work brought upon by Rocha. However, by the third frame, Rocha was getting the better of the action, dropping Ashie near the end of the frame.
To his credit, Ashie survived the oncoming rounds, throwing just the right amount of shots to keep Rocha somewhat honest. However, Alexis wasn't ever completely deterred, as he marched forward, looking to land with intent.
A left by Rocha eventually knocked Ashie back into the ropes in the seventh, with the follow up barrage punctuated by a right hand dropping the Ghanaian hard. The referee immediately waved off the contest at the 2:08 of the seventh round.
In the co-featured bout of the evening, unbeaten Lightweight prospect/contender Floyd Schofield easily defeated Alberto Mercado over the course of ten rounds of action.
In the second round of action, the talented Schofield dropped Mercado, but was unable to get him out of there. Mercado mostly moved and looked to avoid any real conflict, allowing Schofield to coast to a unanimous decision, with all three judges handing in tallies of 100-89.
