RESULTS: ARSLANBEK MAKHMUDOV DROPS, STOPS MICHAEL WALLISCH IN ONE
By: Jay Calderon
On Friday in Shawinigan, Quebec, Canada, at the Centre Gervais Auto, and live on ESPN in the United States, Heavyweight contender Arslanbek Makhmudov made quick work of opponent Michael Wallisch, stopping his overmatched foe in the opening frame of action.
Makhmudov came out firing, immediately applying pressure to Wallisch and eventually dropping him with a short right hand. The undefeated Makhmudov went right back to work when Wallisch got up, and forced Michael to take a knee when he couldn't deal with the shots.
Makhmudov had a point deducted for hitting behind the head, but it wasn't going to matter. After another bunch of glancing blows landed on Wallisch, Michael again took a knee and was really only saved by the bell.
In his corner, it became apparent he wasn't going to come out for the second frame and the bout was waved off.
Prior to the main event, in a massive upset, Femke Hermans soundly defeated Mary Spencer, earning a fringe title at 154 pounds. Hermans was a +800 underdog heading into the contest, but made those odds look silly with a thorough display of boxing and fast hands to earn a unanimous decision win.
Also on the card, Middleweight Steven Butler earned a unanimous decision win over the overmatched Joshua Conley.
