On Saturday at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and live on pay-per-view, Canelo Alvarez pounded out a unanimous decision win over John Ryder, retaining his world Super Middleweight championship in the process.

Canelo began the scoring with a few left hooks to the body that found the mark. With less than a minute left in the frame, a nice right hand landed for the Mexican, though Ryder took it well enough. In the second, Canelo was coming forward, putting a bit more shots together as Ryder wasn't able to find the mark just yet. Still, Ryder was looking to counter whenever Alvarez threw.

In the third, Canelo started off well with a few right hands that busted up the nose of Ryder. John landed a decent uppercut on the inside, but faced a return of a few shots to the body by Alvarez. Ryder was looking to get more going, but was still backing up far too much to suit his style of fight. Ryder did manage a couple of clipping little right hands before the frame ended.

In the fourth, Canelo started off with a grazing left hook. Ryder came back moments later with a straight left hand that partially landed. Alvarez countered well with a right hand that re-started the blood flow from Ryder's nose. A nice left hook to the body landed for Canelo, but Ryder landed well with a return uppercut. Near the end of the round, Canelo scored well enough with a series of right hands.

A quick jab scored for Ryder to open up the fifth. Moments later, a chopping left hand scored for Canelo, who continued to come forward in the contest. With Ryder against the ropes, a powerful 1-2 landed for Alvarez and dropped Ryder to a knee. John beat the count, and was throwing back, trying to fight. However, it was a big round for the Mexican.

To start the sixth, Ryder was trying to come forward and fight his way back into the fight. Canelo was falling short with most of his shots, but even his blocked shots seemed to be moving Ryder a bit more than you would expect. Still, with a few shots on the inside, including a couple of uppercuts, Ryder had a decent rebound round, even though he let it slip away a bit in the final 60 seconds.

Starting off the second half of the fight, the pair traded some shots on the inside. Alvarez was digging to the body well, landing a big right hand to the gut. Ryder moved well, landing a few quick jabs as Canelo was looking to come forward. However, the frame ended with Alvarez making Ryder's face a bloody mess once more with some stiff shots.

Alvarez landed some big blows to start the eighth frame. Both were standing in close quarters, with Ryder trying to let his lands go a bit more, but the shots of Alvarez having more of an impact. Still, to his credit, the defense and chin of Ryder was holding up well enough. A glancing right hand sent Ryder to the canvas, but it was correctly ruled a slip as the pair had their feet tangle up.

The ninth started out as more of the same, but Ryder found some success when he threw some heavy shots that forced Canelo to defend and back away. Canelo landed a partially blocked right hand. Canelo soon landed a big right hand, then another that seemed to stun Ryder. Alvarez followed that with another right that knocked Ryder back into the ropes. The referee was taking a close look, but the Brit managed to survive the round.

Ryder bravely fought back in the tenth, landing another uppercut on the inside to start the scoring off. Canelo was committing to the knockout, but it was allowing Ryder to have some success on the inside. Neither man landed anything monstrous in the frame, but Canelo managed to continue busting up the face of Ryder a bit.

A solid right hand landed for Canelo early in the eleventh, then another moments later. Ryder landed a solid uppercut once more, but the left hand came back that scored for Alvarez. The pair traded straight shots, but Canelo followed it up with some pressure and a scoring body blow.

In the final round of action, Canelo came out looking to close the show. However, Ryder was covering up well and smothering the work when the pair were in close quarters. Sneaky uppercut landed for Ryder with a minute gone. Alvarez was looking to land that fight-ending blow, but was mostly missing when winding up with his shots as Ryder covered up and moved away well. Neither man could catch the knockout as the fight came to a close, though Ryder seemed to have more success.

In the end, the scores were 120-107, and 118-109 twice, all in favor of Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican retained his championships with the performance. JOB had it for Alvarez, scored 117-110.
