RESULTS: DEVIN HANEY REMAINS UNBEATEN, SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS LIGHTWEIGHT GOLD AGAINST VASYL LOMACHENKO
By: Jay Calderon
On Saturday, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, and live on ESPN pay-per-view, undisputed world Lightweight champion Devin Haney narrowly defeated former titlist Vasyl Lomachenko.
In the first half of the fight, Haney was the more accurate fighter, landing well and staying sharp. However, the middle rounds were closer as Lomachenko worked himself into the contest.
The back half of the fight was where Lomachenko really made the fight close, out landing and out working his younger foe in much of the final third of the contest. The final round was tight, but ultimately might have saved the victory for Haney as all three judges gave it to the American.
Scores were: 115-113 twice and 116-112 in favor of Devin Haney. Had Lomachenko been awarded the final frame, the bout would have been a majority draw.
OTHER RESULTS:
Oscar Valdez def. Adam Lopez, 10UD (Jr. Lightweight)
Junto Nakatani def. Andrew Moloney, 12KO (Won Vacant WBO Jr. Bantamweight Title)
