RESULTS: LUIS ALBERTO LOPEZ SHOCKS JOSH WARRINGTON; MICHAEL CONLAN BLASTS OUT KARIM GUERFI
By: Jay Calderon
On Saturday in Leeds, at the First Direct Arena, Featherweight titlist Josh Warrington never really got going against the tough, awkward Mexican Luis Alberto Lopez, ultimately dropping a split decision and picking up the second loss of his career.
The odds were fairly close for this encounter, with Warrington a small favorite. And those odds proved to be true as the fight was tight all the way down the stretch. While it was close, the right man likely won in the end, as Lopez earned his first world title on enemy soil. The loss drops Warrington to 31-2-1, while Lopez improves to 27-2.
In the co-featured bout of the evening, Ebanie Bridges successfully defended her portion of the Bantamweight title, dropping and ultimately earning a decision over the tough Shannon O'Connell. Bridges was stunned momentarily in the first, but was otherwise dominant until the stoppage in the eighth frame.

At the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Featherweight Michael Conlan continued his comeback, stopping Karim Guerfi in the opening round of action. Just two fights removed from his only loss, Conlan was looking for a solid performance to close out the year before likely attempting another title challenge in the new year. With the demolition job of Guerfi, Conlan certainly closed out the year with a bang.
