On Saturday at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and live on Showtime, .

Ponce came out incredibly aggressive in the opening frame, landing well with the uppercut and scoring with combinations. Matias wasn't able to get much going at all as Ponce through around one hundred shots in the first three minutes.

In the second, Ponce was once again coming forward. However, while Jeremias was able to keep his work rate rather high, Matias was throwing with much more conviction as well. By the end of the round, Matias seemed to trouble Ponce with a few left hand blows during exchanges.

Ponce was again successful to start the third round, landing some solid chopping left hand shots on the inside. However, even with Matias backing up at times, he was throwing heavy-handed shots that seemed to have more impact on his man. Both men were fighting right in the center of the ring at this point, with each taking turns landing heavy blows.

In the fifth, Ponce continued to press forward and wage war, but Matias was still the fighter giving just a bit more than he was giving. At the tail end of the frame, Matias landed a combination that troubled Ponce, ultimately dropping him with a left to the body. While he beat the count and made it out of the frame, Ponce and his corner elected to stop the fight in between rounds.

With the win, Matias improved to 19-1 with 19KOs, while Ponce lost for the first time as a professional, dropping to 30-1. With the win, Matias captured the vacant IBF Welterweight title.

In the co-featured bout of the evening, Jamal James earned a tough-but-convincing unanimous decision over Alberto Palmetta in a Welterweight encounter.

In the early frames, James was in almost total control. While Palmeetta was looking to come inside, James was moving well and landing the far more telling blows. As the rounds progressed, James was still picking up the points, landing the sharper work, but Palmetta was coming on a bit stronger.

James seemed to be tiring a bit in the middle frames, but was still throwing well and dealing with the forward attack of his foe. Palmetta, to his credit, was continue to step in and look to land against the longer opponent.

In the seventh, James landed some solid combinations, and even seemed to stun his opponent in the middle of the frame. However, by the end of the frame, Palmetta had James against the ropes, scoring well for himself.

James seemed winded by the eighth, with Palmetta still looking to come inside and make a fight out of it. While James appeared well ahead on the score cards, the momentum of the fight seemed to be favoring Palmetta to some degree. The question was whether Palmetta had enough rounds left in the contest.

James came back well in the ninth, landing the more telling blow, and taking the Palmetta shots well enough. James boxed and moved just enough to keep Palmetta at bay for the most part.

In the final round, James was in total control for much of the stanza. James smartly moved, circled, landed his jab. Palmetta continued to try and make it a fight, but James would pick him apart when he did manage to close the distance.

In the end, the scores were 99-91, 98-92 twice, all in favor of Jamal James. JOB had it 97-93 for Jamal James.
