RESULTS: TOMMY FURY WINS SPLIT DECISION OVER RIVAL JAKE PAUL
By: Jay Calderon
On Sunday at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, and live on pay-per-view, undefeated Tommy Fury survived aate scare to hand Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul his first loss as a professional.
The opening rounds were somewhat a surprise, as many expected Fury to have more success if he came out aggressive. However, he chose instead to box, using his superior length to land and keep out of way of the wider shots of Paul.
When Paul had his most success was when he through multiple shots in a row. However, that didn't happen often.
In the fifth, Paul had a point deducted for hitting behind the head, though he didn't seem to get much of a warning beforehand. Regardless, the point was moot as Fury soon had a point deducted for holding.
In the eighth and final round, an off balance Fury was caught with a shot and went down, though he didn't seem too hurt. Still, it was ruled a knockdown and made scoring a bit closer. Still, not close enough to make a difference.
In the end, while one judge had it 75-74 for Paul, it was overruled by scores of 76-73 twice for Fury. With the win, Fury improved to 9-0, while Paul dropped to 6-1 with the loss.
